Alvar Aalto as an inspiration

Alvar Aalto has always been one of my favorite Architects. His ability to bring together elements of vernacular regionalism, International Style modernism, and other influences is a great inspiration to me. Aalto's work defies categorization and shows that great Architecture doesn't always fit into a specific "style”. Aalto’s work transcends stylistic limitations. For Aalto, a unique synthesis of place, function, technology, and the client's vision generates the Architecture. Aalto doesn't get bogged down in modernist dogma, and he is quick to appropriate regional and vernacular elements... his work reveals a middle ground that expresses the unique cultural time and place of each project.
