Luis Barragan as an inspiration

An Architecture of incredible beauty and power. I always think of the great album by jazz drummer Billy Cobham entitled “Simplicity of Expression - Depth of Thought”. That sentiment perfectly captures the essence of Luis Barragan’s Architecture.

Alvar Aalto as an inspiration

Alvar Aalto has always been one of my favorite Architects. His ability to bring together elements of vernacular regionalism, International Style modernism, and other influences is a great inspiration to me. Aalto's work defies categorization and shows that great Architecture doesn't always fit into a specific "style”. Aalto’s work transcends stylistic limitations. For Aalto, a unique synthesis of place, function, technology, and the client's vision generates the Architecture. Aalto doesn't get bogged down in modernist dogma, and he is quick to appropriate regional and vernacular elements... his work reveals a middle ground that expresses the unique cultural time and place of each project.

Visiting completed projects

Recently I've had the opportunity to visit a few projects of mine that were completed over the past year or three. These visits remind me of the reason I practice Architecture. The buildings are a backdrop and a context for those who occupy them, providing comfort and an environment that enriches their lives. Seeing people enjoying the environments I have designed is very rewarding for me.
